Usage policy
Effective from 7 November 2026
Carbon is meant to help people work, learn and create. This policy, part of the terms of service, lists what it may not be used for. It applies to Carbon models and to your own connected providers alike; the rules of the model’s provider apply as well.
Do not use Carbon to
- break the law or help others break it, including fraud, money laundering and trade in prohibited goods;
- create or spread sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises children;
- develop or obtain biological, chemical, nuclear or radiological weapons, explosives or other means of mass harm;
- write malware, attack systems you are not authorised to test, or get around security measures;
- harass, threaten, incite violence or hatred against people or groups;
- deceive people: phishing, fake reviews, impersonating real people or organisations, mass spam;
- collect or reveal personal data without a legal basis, or track and profile people secretly;
- infringe copyright and other rights: pass off others’ works as your own, remove protection from them, spread them without permission;
- interfere with elections or spread deliberate disinformation;
- make decisions that seriously affect people — about credit, jobs, housing, health or legal status — fully automatically, without a person checking them;
- get around Carbon's limits and safeguards, try to extract the site's keys or instructions, resell access, or scrape the service automatically.
Be careful with
- medical, legal and financial questions: Carbon is not a doctor, lawyer or adviser — check its answers with a professional;
- publishing generated texts and images: say they were made with AI where the law or the platform requires it, and do not pass them off as real photos or statements of real people;
- confidential information: do not send trade secrets, passwords or other people's data to free models in general access — their providers may keep requests.
If the policy is broken
We may refuse a request, limit features, or close the account; where the law requires it we report to the authorities.
